2008 Practice Schedule:

Monday and Wednesday nights from 6:30-7:30 at Brandon Elementary.  If it is like last year, entrance to the gym will only be allowed at the door closest to the gym.  The rules require no team can meet more than three times a week, including the game on Saturday.

Games:

Games start Saturday, January 5th.  The schedule is availabe here will be available soon showing times and locations.  Please arrive at the game 15 minutes prior to tip-off if at all possible.

We will play games against teams from Lufkin, Nacogdoches, and Diboll Corrigan.  All Diboll teams will travel to Lufkin; however, we will travel to Nacogdoches for some games.  If anyone has problems getting to Nacogdoches, please contact me to arrange transportation.

Costs to attend the games are $2.00 for adults and $1.00 for children.  Players and coaches get in free.  A season pass is available at the Parks and Recreation Building in Downtown Lufkin for $20.  Contact Mike Akridge at 936-633-0250 for more information.  The passes are not valid at Nacogdoches or for All-Stars.

All-Stars:

There will be one All-Star team for the 7-8 year old division made up of 10 players selected by the coaches.  The All-Star team will participate in a Pineywoods’ Youth Basketball League tournament during Spring Break week.  If you have travel plans for that week, please inform me so that the team is not missing a player for the tournament.

The Dreaded Door:

For some games in Lufkin, we will be responsible for collecting the money at the entrance to the gyms.  If we do not have someone at the door 15 minutes before our game, we will forfeit.   It’s still possible to watch the games and collect the money.  When we get the final schedule, I will ask for volunteers so that no parent has to do this job more than once during the season.

Team Mom/Dad:

Anyone willing to participate as Team Mom or Dad, please feel free to do so.  This would just involve setting a schedule for snacks after the games and decorating the table at the banquet.  There is a contest for the best decorations that gets very heated.

Banquet:

There will be an awards banquet at the Civic Center a few days after the season is over.

Lufkin Panther Game:

I would like to get the team together for a Lufkin Panther game during the month of January week of Dec 27-29.  I would pay any entrance fees to the game.  I believe the players learn a lot when watching a live game at full speed.   I’ll have more information on this in the future.
